Presidential Unit Citation

Presidential Unit Citation
DESCRIPTION
The Presidential Unit Citation (PUC) is awarded to a unit that displays such gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions that would otherwise warrant the award of the Navy Cross to an individual. This award is reserved for the most decisive campaigns where the entire unit—Marines, Navy Aviation, and support—performed with extraordinary heroism to achieve a critical strategic objective. The PUC signifies collective valor and is the most prestigious unit award CSG-12 can earn.
HISTORY
The Presidential Unit Citation was established by Executive Order in February 1942 and is granted in the name of the President of the United States. It is awarded for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy. The PUC is considered the equivalent of the individual Navy Cross for the entire unit. In the ribbon rack order of precedence, the PUC is the highest unit award, ranking immediately after the Combat Action Ribbon and immediately before the Navy Unit Commendation.
